Getting started: commissions

Getting involved in The Oxford Blue couldn’t be easier.

As a training platform for student journalists honing their skills, we are committed to supporting new writers, but we understand that pitching to any newspaper can seem daunting.

What is a pitch?

pitch should: explain what you want to write about and define your point of view. It doesn’t need to be more than a couple of sentences.

One of the easiest ways to get involved is to pick up a commission, put out weekly by our editors on the commissions pages, open to everyone.

We also accept pitches via email to, or visit the About section on our website to find the names and contact details of all our editors who always have their DMs open.
